"The Scavino family owns almost two of Margheria’s 8ha and boasts vines that are upwards of 65 years old. Here, calcareous white clay with a substantial component of silt yields sturdily structured wines, yet Azelia’s example serves this up with an equal measure of refinement. The 2021 wafts with warm earth and currant blossom. Full and darkly fruited, it makes a strong and immediate tannic impact. But as commanding as the tannins are, they remain smooth in texture and are padded by a fleshy layer. The salty twisty is salivating. This will certainly benefit from a few years in the cellar."

"The 2021 Barolo Margheria, which has a deeper pigment and saturated brick red color, offers more concentration and resinous qualities in the glass. It reveals notes of charred rosemary, dark cherries, fresh mint, violets, and dark stones. The palate is highly pleasurable and pure, with a medium to full-bodied feel, lovely purity of ripe cherry fruit, sweet tannins, refreshing acidity, and an elegant tapering finish. A very appealing selection, it’s showing beautifully now yet has a good deal of life and room to improve with the coming 15 or more years."
