“Babs”… get it? As in Santa Barbara? One of the “hottest” regions in the world right now for Pinot Noir., where prices are skyrocketing right along with the ratings. However, this wine, as the label implies, is a throwback to a different time. When the region was barely known, the wines were great, prices were low, and nobody had heard of Adam Lee.
Adam Lee founded Siduri in the early 90’s and is, perhaps, the person most instrumental in the rise of the region to the world stage. After selling his winery to the Jackson Family, then completing a 3-year consulting contract, Adam wanted to get back to the fun side of winemaking: small-production wines that don’t break the bank and are just simply fun to drink.
Hello Babs!
Joining him is John Wagner, possibly the largest landowner in Santa Rita Hills, owning both the John Sebastiano Vineyard and Peake Ranch Vineyard and Winery. In Santa Maria Valley, John owns the Sierra Madre Vineyard. These three vineyards have been the source of countless highly rated wines from handfuls of great wineries.
Babs comes from all three of John’s vineyards and allows Adam the unique opportunity to combine these great sources together into one outstanding wine. The red fruits of Santa Maria Valley marry with the darker flavors of the Sta. Rita Hills to produce a quintessential Santa Barbara Pinot Noir. The addition of a judicious use of whole clusters in the fermentation adds additional complexity to the blend and also provides just the right note of tannin on the finish.
Y’know, we should revisit the vineyard sourcing again… some wines made from these vineyards?
- Paul Lato Atticus John Sebastiano Vineyard 2018 – 97 pts Jeb Dunnuck - $80
- Foxen JSV 2018 – 95 pts Vinous - $56
- Peake Ranch Vineyard Pinot Peake Ranch Vineyard 2018 – 94 pts Jeb Dunnuck - $45
- Paul Lato The Prospect Sierra Madre Vineyard 2017 – 97 pts JD - $70
94-97 pt Pinots… judged exceptional by all the main critics… from multiple wineries…$45-80... I think $50 for this Pinot would be a fair price... as low as $19.99?
This is some serious juice folks.

"This is a rich and satisfying expression of Pinot Noir by Adam Lee. Candied black-cherry and buttery cinnamon roll aromas lead the nose into a tighter palate, where ripe red-cherry and pomegranate flavors are spiced by cracked pepper, crumpled sage and a hint of bay leaf."
