"This unoaked Malbec showcases Patagonia’s vast, bright, windswept freshness in a bottle. Familia Schroeder is based in San Patricio del Chañar in Neuquén, and is renowned not just for its characterful wines – which range from sparkling to sweet (raisined) Pinot Noir via elegant, expressive Malbec – but also the Titanosaur fossils that were unearthed during winery construction. The Alpataco range is named after a thorny desert shrub. Peter Richards MW: Bright, lifted scents of fresh herbs, spring flowers, ripe plum and damson. Juicy, easygoing palate with fresh, floral complexity. Tannins are discreet, and it’s quite an aerial style. Lovely. Ben Gubbins: Touches of baked and red fruits, pepper and tobacco leaf, cured meats. Very silky, this flows through to leave a spicy and fruity coating that lingers. Complexity and good character. Andrew Johnson: Dark fruit aromas, notes of forest floor and spice. Clean and pure on the palate with firm, ripe tannins."
