From 70-100 year-old vines, the grapes are hand-harvested in small baskets to ensure no premature breaking of the skins. This keeps the juice pure and pristine when fermentation starts in large oak barrels. Scents and flavors of pears, nectarines, oranges, quince, pineapple and melon… high glycerol content gives the wine a rich, plush texture… aging in neutral oak barrels on the lees for 12 months adds a hint of spice and more depth of flavor. To be honest, I drank the wine without paying attention to where it was from. It’s a fun game, but this one would leave the most advanced sommelier confused. Was this Meursault? A top-flight white Bordeaux? Perhaps a white Chateauneuf du Pape? The only thing I knew for certain was this was an incredible wine. And must retail for at least $30. Likely $45.
Wrong on all counts, I am only to happy to lick my wounds while drinking another bottle of this! Want some?

“The 2024 Nisia Old Vine Verdejo was made from bush-trained vines planted in 1950, fermented in old barrels and was aged on the lees. Yellow in color, it opens with delicate oak, butter, lees, pastry and green apple aromas. The palate is creamy and fresh, with good volume. It leaves behind white fruit flavors and a hint of concentration.” - VM
