“Whoa, Todd... Ventoux ain’t Chateauneuf du Pape!”
And you are all the more lucky for it! The famed Mount Ventoux is about 15 miles east of Chateauneuf. During the summer, hot air rises the slopes of Ventoux, while cooler air falls to the foothills. This is where Ch. Pesquie sits – “in the latest-ripening part of one of the highest and latest-ripening terroirs in the Southern Rhone.” Winery note. Their wines are known for their concentration, finesse and elegance.
A wide variety of soils exist within the Chaudière family’s vineyards, but the most rare, and perhaps most prized, is the sandy soil of the Silica vineyard. This is the same soil found in the northeastern quadrant of Chateauneuf. Rayas, Janasse, St. Theodoric, Cristia are some of the legendary producers in the region.

The sandy soils deliver Grenache that is ethereally perfumed, flush with fruit and an almost weightless richness. Simply, the wines are beautiful.
For under $40, this wine is a ridiculous value!
65 year-old vines. 90% Grenache / 10% Cinsault planted in sandy soil. Think elegant Chateauneuf du Pape… at $80+!!!

"The 2020 Ventoux Silica is beautiful, with ripe strawberry and framboise fruit notes as well as notes of sappy garrigue, chalky minerality, and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it's as seamless as they come and offers richness without weight, beautiful balance, and a great finish. I like it today yet it will certainly have 10-15 years of overall longevity."
