Vieux Robin is a small estate, with only 20 hectares of vineyards. It’s been in the same family for six generations, with each young winemaker bringing more technical and generational experience to the vineyard. Classified as “Cru Bourgeois” and given the High Environmental Value certification by the French Government for their sustainability practices, the biggest question I have is how they’re still flying under the radar?
This gem is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, with the balance being Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. 50 year-old vines result in admirable concentration and intensity. This baby is exploding with deep, dark fruit. Black currant and plum fruit notes are balanced by spice, and a little bit of bottle age mellows everything out for silky smooth finish with lovely earthy tannins.
James Suckling: 91 Points
Aromas of currants and tar with cedar and sandalwood. Full-bodied with lovely, layered and round tannins and nice presence on the finish. Drink after 2021.
Wine Enthusiast
This 25-acre estate has been owned by the same family since 1840. Its latest release is structured and full of dry tannins, but with the promise of balanced black-fruit flavors. It will take time to develop and should not be drunk before 2023. — Roger Voss
