"The 2019 Clos Romanile turned out beautifully. It offers up a seductive mix of ripe, heady fruit driven by beams of energy that confer vibrancy. The 2019 needs a bit of time in the glass to open, but it is super-impressive. Clos Romanile is the personal project of Remi Dalmasso, the cellarmaster for the various properties under the Thunevin umbrella."

"Owned by Rémi Dalmasso, longtime winemaker at Château Valandraud with Jean-Luc Thunevin, this is from 1ha of vines planted in their garden around 1km to the north of St Emilion village and makes only 1,000 bottles per year. It's not a wine that I know well, and was an enjoyable surprise during these tastings. Does a good job of combining the power of grilled oak with a sappy, juicy and open framework. Plenty of tobacco, cedar and smoked vanilla bean edging, well-matched by damson and black cherry fruit. Murielle Andraud, Thunevin's wife, is the vineyard consultant. 100% new oak."

"Coming from the cooler Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes region, the 2019 Clos Romanile has a wonderful blue-fruited quality as well as plenty of floral nuances, sappy herbs, and minerality. This is a rich, beautifully balanced, elegant wine that still packs plenty of fruit and has solid structure and a great finish."
