Donatella Colombini Description
"Donatella Cinelli Colombini's Vin Santo is made in a very traditional manner that dates back many years to practices carried out at their original farm in southern Chianti. A few clusters of Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia del Chianti are left out to dry in the loft of the villa, just as ancient practice dictates, and this delicious, aromatic wine becomes a precious treat to share with traditional desserts like panforte and biscotti." - Importer
Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
The chocolate brown color of the wine foreshadows a nose defined by the heady, dense sweetness of rum-soaked raisins, dried Mission figs, milk chocolate and freshly brewed coffee. The palate offers more of those dense, sweet dried fruit notes, but also the vivacity of bright citrus and salted nuts, which makes the overall feel unexpectedly tangy and bouncy.
James Suckling: 90 Points
A little old-fashioned, with lifted balsamic and rancio character to the caramelized apricots, sultanas and burnt sugar. Dense and pretty luscious with caramel, walnut and raisins in the finish. Fresh, high acidity manages to balance it out. Drink now.
Vinous Media: 90 Points
Rum-soaked raisins combine with cedar spice box, clove and candied apples as the 2009 Vin Santo del Chianti emerges from the glass. Silken and round, this impresses most with its savory appeal as sour citrus tones and juicy acidity enliven a core of ripe orchard fruits and a butterscotch richness embellishes the close. The 2009 finishes spicy and long, leaving a resonance of dried apricots, peaches and rum-soaked cherries.
