Dragonette Description
“Vogelzang is a tremendous site. We have leased several acres here since 2009, and these wines have been some of our most decorated and long-lived wines – as much as the reds! Vines are now over 20 years old, reducing yields and concentrating flavors. This has always been a top performer in our lineup, and the wine has historically aged remarkably (the 2009 is still going strong, and the 2015 and 2017 still have many years ahead of them). In 2021 the vessels selected for this wine were 90% French oak barrels of varying sizes (228L barriques, 276L “cigars”, and 300L and 320 L “Muid’ocs”) and 10% stainless steel. In total the new wood represented 35% of the blend. The wine was aged for a total of 17 months on its lees before bottling.
The resulting wine shows classic Vogelzang character of powerful stone fruit, mango and pineapple aromas, with some floral and herb notes, followed by dramatic fruit flavors of great concentration and texture leading to a whiplash of citrus dominated acidity and effusive minerality, which gives a tremendous finish.”
Jeb Dunnuck: 96 Points
"The richest of the three Sauvignons, the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Vogelzang Vineyard has gorgeous melon, honeyed white flowers, orange blossom, and chalky, mineral nuances to go with a medium to full-bodied, vibrant, beautifully balanced style on the palate. It's clearly the most concentrated and opulent, with a singular style that will benefit from just a few years in the cellar. As with the other releases here, it will evolve for at least a decade if you're so inclined."
Decanter: 96 Points
"Incredibly focused and pure with heady wild herb aromas and marked by salty mineral sea spray, parmesan rind, and black licorice, with a terrific line racy, zingy acidity, and very deep layers of flavours on its medium-bodied palate, ranging from baked pear, and granny smith apple, to salted Marcona almonds, dried spring flowers, and salted citrus peel just lingers on the mid-palate, finishing with an extraordinary length and tension. Absolutely riveting."
Vinous Media: 93 Points
“The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Vogelzang Vineyard offers up a mélange of ripe orchard fruit, tangerine peel, mango, spice and hazelnut. In 2021 the Vogelzang has an exotic flair that is impossible to miss. There's a touch of new oak, but it works well for this style.” – Antonio Galloni
