“The 2020 Barolo from Borgogno is utterly delicious, delivering juicy raspberry, wild strawberry, licorice and cake spice flavors wrapped up in polished tannins. It’s also fragrant, with heady aromas of pine forest, violet, rose hip, camphor and dark spice. Drink 2026–2032.” - 95 pts Kerin O’Keefe
Established in 1761, Cantina Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is one of Barolo’s most iconic producers. The winery’s deep cellars are recognized as one of Piemonte’s historic treasures. They own prized vineyards in Barolo, Madonna di Como, and Colli Tortonesi. Farming and production is very traditional, with organic practices in the vineyards, long spontaneous fermentations in concrete vats, and extended ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. This wine is Borgogno’s most renowned cuvee, a blend of their best fruit and barrels from their most prestigious vineyards (Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, Liste, San Pietro delle Viole).

“A deeper ruby/red color, the 2020 Barolo comes from the same vineyards as the No Name as well as Annunziata and offers more depth and ripeness, with aromas of black raspberries, candied cherries, preserved flowers, sweet herbs, and mossy earth. It has outstanding ripeness and purity and is long on the palate, with all its components coming together, delivering warmth, structure, and freshness. This is pretty serious wine, one of the best blended wines I’ve tasted in this vintage, and it’s going to be hard to beat. Buy it now.”
