Ahh… who cares?
Here’s what you really need to know – Burgundy is absolutely killing it these days with value. I know! Burgundy! The secret is finding wines outside of the big name regions, and looking for areas where grapes used to struggle to ripen but now, thanks to global warming, are sitting in the sweet spot! This is such a wine, because what was someone thinking planting at 350 meters with Western exposure back in 1970? They would have been lucky to get ripe grapes 3 out of 10 years. But now? The elevation is in the “golden zone” for perfect day/night temperature fluctuations and the overall higher temperatures result in fruit that is absolutely stunning. Talk about punching above it’s weight class! And I don’t just mean in Burgundy… I’d stack this up against $30 bottles from Oregon any day!
Just gorgeously perfumed aromas of cherries and strawberries give way to vibrant fruit flavors mingling with just the right balance of earth and spice. Delicious and, at 12.5% alc, not so heady you can’t go back for that second (or third) glass!
James Suckling: 91 Points
This has notes of raspberries, red cherries and sweet oranges on the nose, followed by a bright, juicy and medium-bodied palate with crunchy tannins. Excellent energy. Drink now or in the next few years.
