Jean Emonin is an alternative label for the outstanding Domaine Vincent Bouzereau, winemakers in Meursault since the 16th century! Over the past 30 years Vincent put together an outstanding estate with holdings in some of the most famed vineyards.
Les Narvaux is one of the most famous of the named vineyards in Muersault. The vineyard sits just upslope from the Premier Crus of Les Genevieres and Poruzots. The position on the slope means a thinner soil and more erosion that, 50 or so years ago might have been a downside in hard to ripen vintages. But farmers have figured out how to address these issues with cover crops and the establishment of older vines. Sharing the same preferred exposure of Genevieres and Poruzots, Narvaux produces 1er Cru level wines – and often gets the same prices!
Consider the average price on wine-searcher for a 2015 Meursault Les Narvaux is north of $75, with some fetching as much as $140… at $58, this is a steal!
Aromas of nectarine, apricot and red apple dance on top of a buttered almond nose. The mouthfeel is full and plush but with a delightfully vibrant acidity. It is immediately palate coating with a refined structure that carries the flavors across the entire mouth. The 2015 magically balances freshness and fullness, must be the extra chalk in the Narvaux soil. The long finish has a slight lemon acidity, a fullness of hazelnut, and a river stone mineral edge. Fruity, saline mineral notes and a classic dryness. This should reward those with patience, but it will be hard to keep your hands off. (100% barrel fermented and aged, 33% new oak.)
