Since founding her winery in 2007 as a 100-case hobby, Kelley Fox has turned her passion project into a 5,500-case production success story. After years of experience at some of Willamette’s most prestigious producers like Torii Mor, Eyrie Vineyards, and Scott Paul, her solo work is now earning massive accolades from both critics and Oregon aficionados like myself…
Her Chardonnay is nothing short of marvelous. Rich and beautifully textured, but with striking fruit, flower, and mineral tones, there’s a perfect balance between its classic feel and modern sensibilities. This is where you can really see Kelley’s ingenuity on display- using a blend of neutral oak and clay amphorae to achieve something that somehow manages to capture both sides of Chardonnay in one beautiful bottle.
Kelley Fox Description
“2024 is the fourth vintage of this Chardonnay bottling, and this one is produced from two vineyards I love and respect tremendously: Durant Vineyard and Freedom Hill Vineyard (about 50% percent each). I’ve put them in a label drawn by my younger daughter, Violet, depicting a snowy owl about to light onto a Western hemlock branch.
The 2024 is a pale, shining gold and brilliantly transparent. The rich, creamy tropical fruit nose with powdery minerals continues in the mouth with a pleasing heft without the weight. Like a beautiful raindrop shaped by our Earth’s gravity but in a texture. Long finish. This Chardonnay is unadorned with new wood but still benefits from oak tree energy and the cool minerality of concrete amphora tanks.”
Jeb Dunnuck: 94 Points
“The 2024 Chardonnay Willamette Valley is a bright yellow color and offers notes of honeyed citrus, poached apples, and pretty spice. Full-bodied yet carrying a medium-bodied, fruity elegance, this vintage includes fruit from Freedom Hill and Durant. Aged in neutral French oak and concrete amphora, it has a great texture and a long-lasting finish. Drink now or over the next 7-8 years.”
Vinous Media: 93 Points
“The 2024 Chardonnay Willamette Valley wafts up with minty freshness, blending white flowers with nuances of ginger, flint and slate. The palate is soothingly round, with a pretty inner sweetness and supreme balance as lemon mingles with apricot and a saline mineral tinge. Lively tension puckers the cheeks while mouthwatering acidity and a salty flourish linger. The value here is unparalleled.”
