Landhaus Mayer’s Gruner is sourced from Niederosterreich, or Lower Austria, in the north-east of Austria bordering Slovakia and the Czech Republic. This is Austria's largest wine region, both geographically and in terms of production. A wide variety of different grape varieties are grown in the region, but Gruner and Riesling reign supreme. Landhaus Mayer has recently established a cooperation with the winegrowers of lower Austria, who have been passionately dedicated to cultivating their prime vineyards for generations. Gerhard J. Lobner, production manager of Landhaus Mayer, and the winegrowers jointly decide which steps to take in the vineyards, and the vines are closely monitored from the pruning up to the optimal harvest time.
Aromatically enticing from the offset, tropical fruits galore, grapefruit and classic lime notes, all mixed hints of spice and white pepper. Elegant and pure on the tongue, medium bodied, with lots more tropical fruits and fresh lime flavours coating the mouth. This little gem offers the perfect balance for me, fresh and fruity upfront, with plenty of zippy acidity keeping the wine lively and oh so crushable! Food you ask? It’ll match up well with all kinds of foods, schnitzel for sure, Thai chicken salad, fresh ceviche, or just crack a bottle with your favourite snack and guzzle some Gruner!
