Oftentimes, we are asked when the ideal time to drink high level Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs is - how many years after release date finds these great wines in their "sweet spot" for enjoyment. The answer, of course, depends onthe specific wine, but if one were to generalize, responding "2 to 4 years after release date" would be a pretty good target. As such, we are very pleased to be able to offer you this pedigreed Pinot Noir fully in its shining moment to enjoy TONIGHT, without any special care instructions, from the esteemed 2019 vintage...
North Valley Vineyards began as a satellite project of Willamette Valley superstar winery, Soter Vineyards, but rapidly grew into its own success and has been a recognized, qualitative leader for almost 20 years now. Winemaker James Cahill, who leads the helm here, also worked at Beaux Freres and Elk Cove, in addition to Soter Vinyeards - you could say he's got a good resume!
Each year, North Valley works with a collection of fantastic vineyards in the region, sourcing fruit both from two of their own, Estate properties, along with fruit from some of their extremely well-established neighbors, to craft wines of distinct, diverse, regional character. Their RESERVE Pinot Noir each year represents at once their finest vineyard sources, and is blended from the best barrels that develop in their cellar. In this vintage, the best of the best was primarily Yamhill Carlton fruit, showcasing the ancient marine sedimentary soils of the region, yielding a rich, medium-full bodied, very luscious Pinot Noir, redolent of dark berry fruits, with hints of spice and underbrush, with a long, mouthcoating finish that begs for another pour.
James Suckling: 92 Points
"A medium-bodied red with dried-strawberry and citrus aromas and flavors. Firm and fresh. Drink or hold."
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
"Delivers a lot for the price, with multilayered notes of cherry, pomegranate and black tea. Polished, savory finish. Drink now through 2029. 1200 cases made."
