When I first tasted this wine I thought it must be mislabeled. The Tinto, the “entry level red” – are you kidding me? This wine is incredible! I didn’t just sample it, my wife and I drank the whole bottle! A true Dao field blend, all estate vines, all sustainably farmed and naturally fermented with indigenous yeasts. The approximate blend is 25% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), 25% Touriga Nacional (Portugal’s most precious grape), 25% Alfrocheiro (fast becoming my favourite grape from anywhere), and 25% Jaen (Mencia). Explosive aromatics of fresh red fruits and flowers leap from the glass, you know from the offset you’re in for a treat. Pure red berry flavours follow, laced with bright minerals from the granite-based soils. Medium-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins, delicate acidity and a slightly spicy finish. This wine reminds me of the wild aromatics and minerality you get in an Alto-Piemonte Nebbiolo, combined with the bright juiciness you might find in an Oregon Pinot, or perhaps a top level Bierzo Mencia. Except you can expect to pay $40-$50 for wines like that!
Quinta de Saes Description

"Bright ruby-garnet. On the nose, bright fresh cherry, pomegranate, candied violet, rose petal and flint. On the palate, elegant and fresh, with floral and spice notes wrapped around a core of fresh cherry fruit. Finishes long, with mouthwatering acidity and a consistent beam of minerality through the finish." - Ole & Obrigado, Importer
