Lots of sweet framboise, strawberries, dried rosemary, spice, and herbes de Provence-like nuances emerge from the 2019 Grenache Ambervale, a medium to full-bodied, beautifully layered, seamless Grenache. I believe this is all variety, and it brings beautiful intensity and classic Grenache fruit while staying balanced, elegant, and light on its feet. It's just about impossible to resist today, yet it should evolve nicely for 10-15 years.

The quartz rock and harsh, high-altitude existence in the Eden Valley, up above the Barossa, is brought to mind via this savory, graphite/mineral-laden, brooding 2019 Ambervale Grenache. The vintage was dry, warm and not without its challenges (lack of water and yields, primarily), but the struggle is wafting out of the glass here. There are resinous tar and star anise characters woven throughout, but most of the characters that I am finding here are black in some way. It has a black and white vibe actually... grainy, charming and uncomplicated somehow. An engaging wine, it does take some unpicking to understand it, though. It's distinct, and won't be to everyone's tastes, but it is very good...
