They say happy vines produced delicious wines, and with this view these vines must be pretty darn happy! The Tenuta Argentiera Estate is the closest winery to the Tyrrhenian coast and is also the highest in altitude of the entire Bolgheri region, reaching up to 200 meters above sea level. The property enjoys sea breezes and good diurnal temperature swings even in the hottest points of the summer. The balanced fruit these vines produce really shines in the wine too. All too often I find that the big Bolgheri Rossos need a long time in the bottle before they’re really singing, but this beauty is shining now.
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, its Bordeaux meets Tuscany for a fancy vacation in Bolgheri! Dark cherry and black raspberry intertwine with dried violets and cedar on the nose. A rich complex palate follows, with more spiced dark berries, a firm core of tannins, and a long seamless finish that seems to last for minutes. There’s no doubt this is a big wine, but there’s a sense of sophistication too, even in its youth. Pairings? Bistecca alla Florentina please!
98 pts Falstaff - "Noble ruby red, dark glowing. Rich and inviting nose, opens with fine spicy notes, some sandalwood and cardamom, then rich wild berries and ripe raspberries, with an aftertaste of Amarena cherries. On the palate with noble spice and great melting, spreads balanced over the tongue, with close-meshed tannins, very precise, shows finesse and elegance, with fine pressure on the palate, long finish." “What a beauty and what an incredible leap forward to excellence. The Tenuta Argentiera 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera shows depth and wide shoulders with soft plushness and impeccable fruit. The full-bodied wine is dialed up on all levels from perfumes, intensity, mouthfeel, texture and freshness. This bottle should hold past the 20-year mark." WA
