Familia Schroeder are one of just 14 wineries brave enough to operate in the extreme, windswept latitude of Patagonia. They exclusively use stainless steel to ferment and age this Malbec, which is just what this pure, vibrant fruit calls for. The name ‘Alpataco’ references an indigenous, hardy shrub that represents the resilience it takes to grow in this part of the world. An apt name, too, considering the herbal tones that bracket the plump black fruit and delicate violet tones. Velvety tannins and the driving acidity create a perfect finish.
Safe to say, this is a great buy in South American Malbec.
