The polar opposite of Clos des Lunes, Ch. Reynon is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Yet this is unlike Sauv Blanc you have tried from New Zealand or Sancerre or pretty much anywhere else. It is at once more mineral driven than New Zealand, yet weightier and fleshier. The differentiation comes largely from the winemaking. After fermentation, the wine is aged in tanks for 5-7 months “on the lees.” On the what? The lees are the leftover yeast particles after fermentation. Aging the wine in contact results in the aforementioned richness and texture, uncommon to most Sauvignon Blancs.
Melon, pear and exotic floral notes lead into a bright, zippy wine loaded with lemon/lime, grapefruit and Granny Smith apple flavors. This will age for another 5 years for sure! But at this price, good luck saving any!

“The 2021 Reynon Blanc has a perfumed gooseberry and nettle bouquet, well-defined with fine vigor. The palate is fresh and citrus-driven, delivering good concentration and a malic finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This will be difficult to resist once bottled and should provide great value for money.”
