The famed Gigondas producer makes a teeny bit of white. Is it good? Duh… But white Rhones don’t exactly fly out the door… so the distributor is slashing his price!
Personally, I love white Rhones. They remind me a lot of white Burgundy, with a little more exotic notes and a whole lot smaller price tag!
This gem is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and a smidge of Viognier. The Viognier pops from the glass with white floral notes accompanied by melon and anise. There’s just enough body that carries it all along without getting overblown. White peaches, melon and citrus flavors are complemented by a whisp of fresh herbs and almond. A vein of minerality and balanced acidity round out the package. And a complete one at that! Compare with white Chateauneufs at $40+!
Plan on two bottles for dinner… one to drink on the porch and the other to serve with dinner. Fish? Chicken? Pork? Mixed veggie dish? Pasta? It isn't fair how many things this wine pairs with!
