The 21 hectare Prelius estate is located in Maremma, southwestern Tuscany, right next door to Antinori’s property in the Grosseto region. Owned and operated by the Stanti Mascheroni family (of Volpaia Chianti Classico fame), leaders in organic viticulture in Tuscany for decades. Just five kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea, this warm maritime site benefits from cool coastal breezes even at the peak of the summer temperatures. Certified organic by the EU. Prelius also works with LifeGate, a global organization which equalizes the CO2 emissions by replanting forests in Madagascar, they have received the “Impatto Zero,” or “Zero Impact,” certification also recognized by the EU.
Pretty cool stuff, but how’s the wine? Flat-out delicious! 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in stainless steel then aged for six months in French oak casks. Classic Cabernet Sauvignon dark fruit notes of blackberry and cassis set things off. Give it a swirl and the aromas expand with coffee bean, violets and wild Tuscan herbs adding intrigue. A pure plush palate follows that’s bright with dark berries, and balanced with a savory edge that hails from Tuscany. Medium-bodied and silky smooth with round tannins and a long fresh finish. It’s almost too drinkable, you might finish the bottle before dinner has started!

"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a very pretty wine. Readers will find a supple, perfumed Cabernet Sauvignon that emphasizes freshness and drinkability more than the richer style often associated with Tuscany's Maremma. I admire its balance and aromatic presence, both of which make it a fine choice for drinking over the next handful of years."
