The Tavignano winery produces a mere 8,000 cases of wine a year. Most is dedicated to their prized Verdicchio, the best of which comes from the Misco vineyard, a small, 3.5 hectare plot. Twenty-five year old vines produce intense, rich fruit. Notes of sweet, green almonds, acacia flowers, star anise and citrus lead into plump peach and apricot flavors. There's bright acidity, for sure, but this baby possesses far more richness and than is typical of the grape, and especially the price! I'd pay $20 plus for this and never blink. At $15.99, it is just stunning.
To pair? If you're feeling adventurous, you simply must try stocco all’anconetana, Ancona style stockfish... the local adaption of dried codfish, cooked low and slow with potatoes, tomatoes, herbs, etc. Here's a recipe link. Of course, any hearty fish dish would do, as well as quail, rabbit, chicken or pork. Hmm... grilled, marinated rabbit is absolutely delish! Egg noodles with fresh garden veggies is also a killer match!
“Straw-green color. Complex aromas of ripe citrus and tropical fruits, along with peppery herbs and a hint of anise. Fat, rich, spicy and ripe, but with excellent precision to the flavors of nectarine, apple, pear and papaya. Finishes rich but firm-edged and dry, with noteworthy length.” Vinous on the 2013
