For those not familiar with the Amarone style, here's a quick primer for you. Amarone hails from the Veneto region of Italy in the Northeast of the country. After harvesting the grapes, the best bunches are selected to become Amarone. They are placed in wooden racks and left to dry for as long as four months. This drying process concentrates the natural sugars as well as imparts flavors of prune and fig paste to the mix, making for a complex wine. The resulting wine is full-throttle - 16.5% alc - with the slightest hint of sweetness to it, but really not much more than your typical California Zinfandel or Australian Shiraz.
I think Tommaso captures the essence of the wine best when he writes, "It is the ideal wine with game and has no rivals as an accompaniment to hard cheeses. But its most characteristic role is as an after-dinner wine, for sipping in moments of intimacy, or for fuelling lively post-prandial conversation. It should be opened at least two hours before consumption and consumed at ambient temperature. It is the classic wine of friendship."

"The 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico entices with mentholated freshness that gives way to balsamic-laced black cherries and shavings of dark chocolate. It is rich in style with velvety textures and depths of mineral-inflected red berry fruits, yet all energized by a core of zesty acidity as cedary spices swirl throughout. Energetic despite its sheer size, the 2019 leaves a resonance of tart blackberry and rosy inner florals that linger incredibly long. Drink 2025-2036 "
James Suckling: 95 Points
"An evolved wine full of earth, dried prunes, bay leaves and coffee grounds on the nose. Smooth and round on the palate, with a full body, a touch of sweetness, and ripe, velvety tannins balanced by long, refreshing acidity and a very savory overall profile. Drink or hold."
