Tavel is the only appellation in the Rhone Valley to produce nothing but rose wine. Not just any rose, either - Tavel has historically been a favorite of French Royalty dating back to the 1300s, with Louis XIV pouring it liberally throughout Versailles.
This is an absolutely classic Tavel. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 10% Syrah offering a deep cherry-red color, the wine draws you in notes of raspberries, wild strawberries, a hint of orange blossom and minerality. A tangle of briary fruits envelopes your senses as you dive in for a sip – blackberry and raspberry – especially the wild variety, with their brighter acidity and ripe/tart balance!
Tavel even has a surprising potential in the cellar! A year or two of age can bring out some impressive savory herbal tones and up the complexity even more- but that means making sure you keep your hands off of it. Better play it safe and stock up!
